Docklands Melbourne Australia
Urban Art at Docklands

Impressive urban art pieces are a distinctive feature of the Docklands environment. The scale, scope and heritage of Docklands are critical factors that inform the development of the cutting edge urban art program.

Artists are encouraged to consider relevant themes in responding to the Docklands environment, in particular, the strong water focus, indigenous history, industrial and maritime history and urban interface. The public art of Docklands has a 24 hour impact, intended to reach a broad audience of workers, residents, tourists and visitors.

There are now over 29 large scale public artworks throughout the Docklands precinct for everyone to enjoy.

Art Journey

Have you seen the Cow Up a Tree, Blowhole or Reed Vessel? These are just some of the spectacular artworks that make Docklands an urban art destination, reflecting Melburnians’ love of culture and the arts.

Follow the Art Journey, a self-guided urban art tour, to view over 29 public artworks across the precincts that are bringing colour and life to Docklands 24 hours a day. Along the way, make use of the different open spaces that complement the artworks, offering barbeque areas, creative playgrounds and recreation areas for people living, visiting and working in Docklands.

The artworks form part of the $15 million Docklands Integrated Urban Art Program , with one percent of Docklands’ development costs going towards urban art.

Specially commissioned artists have responded to the Docklands environment with striking, large-scale works that reflect the themes of water, indigenous history, the industrial and maritime past and contemporary urban setting.
