Icehouse

The Icehouse will be Australia’s world class ice sports and leisure venue that provides cool and exciting activities and affordable experiences for everyone.

Targeted for completion by early 2010, the Icehouse will be the first of its kind in Australia and will be the new home to:

• Family fun and recreational ice skating 7 days per week (excluding some holidays).
• Olympic Winter Institute of Australia.
• Proposed home of Melbourne Ice – Melbourne’s team within the Australian Ice Hockey League.
• Amateur Ice Hockey.
• Speed Skating Clubs.
• Figure Skating Clubs.
• Ice shows for entertainment

What will the Icehouse offer?

• 2 Olympic sized ice skating rinks (60 metres x 30 metres).
• Rink 1 can accommodate all major ice sports with approx 1,000 spectators in stadium seating.
• Rink 2 will be predominantly used for leisure ice skating, with a spectacular lighting and sound system.
• LED screens for viewing enjoyment.
• Café and Sports Bar showcasing memorabilia and trophies.
• Specialised Winter Sports gym where Olympians and elite athletes can train.

Come to the Icehouse for a leisurely skate. From 3 years of age to 103… everyone is welcome. Enjoy a coffee or meal in the café, join a group for a fun and friendly beginners to advanced lesson or watch the thrills and spills of an ice hockey match! Functions, birthday parties and corporate events are all welcome.

Did you know?

• The Icehouse was designed locally in Melbourne with the assistance of expert advice from the USA.

• The Icehouse can collect up to 65,000 litres of water from the roof. Once treated on site, this can be used for creating ice. Otherwise it will be used for amenities flushing.

• The Icehouse has been designed to achieve an Award of Excellence under the Docklands Environmentally Sustainable Design Guidelines. This is comparable to a 5 Star Green Star Rating.
